SHARE and Arkansas Urology team up for enhanced care coordination

Little Rock, Arkansas September 2019          State Health Alliance for Records Exchange (SHARE), the state’s only statewide health information exchange (HIE), has announced a major Data Participation Agreement with Arkansas Urology, which includes their locations throughout Arkansas in Benton, Bentonville, Clinton, Conway,  Conway South, El Dorado, Heber Springs, Little Rock, Men’s Health- Bowman Road, Little Rock, North Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Russellville and Stuttgart. These locations will now be able to share medical records with all other participating health care facilities connected to SHARE.

Arkansas Urology is the largest urology practice in Arkansas and continues to offer the latest innovations in medical technology and surgical techniques to patients with a variety of urological conditions. Their physicians and professional staff make up one of the most experienced and respected urological practices in the region. Approximately 60,000 patients visit their facility each year to receive the best in compassionate, quality care.

Arkansas Urology also has a state-of-the-art surgery center, Centerview Surgery Center, that the physicians and providers of Arkansas Urology perform urologic procedures and surgeries and provide their patients with world-class care.

Through this interface connection with their Athena electronic medical record (EMR), Arkansas Urology is now able to utilize the technologically infrastructure to securely transfer patient lab test results, diagnosis, allergies, conditions, medications to its network of health care providers.  Electronic access to a patient’s results gives physicians and other health care providers in the patients’ chain of health care providers the results of lab tests, patient records such as diagnosis, medical history, discharge summaries, social determinants of health (SDOH), lab results, medications, immunizations, vitals and allergies faster to make sound clinical decisions.

In addition, the clinics also use SHARE’s Virtual Health Record, a web-based portal, to view historical results on their patients.  This aids in making proper diagnoses, reduces delays in treatment, and eliminates redundant testing if a patient is referred to another health care provider. In addition to the ability to share patient medical records, Arkansas Urology participation enables faster treatment, fewer repeated tests, better care coordination, reduced risk of mistakes and greater convenience for both clinicians and patients.

“We are eager to collaborate with such a prestigious organization. SHARE and Arkansas Urology will work together to identify and implement specific use cases which are intended to demonstrate improved quality of care, reduction in administration efforts, and better patient outcomes,” says Justin Villines, HIT Policy Integrator of SHARE.

This agreement comes on the heels of a surge in growth for SHARE, which has seen multiple hospitals, health plans, and clinics join its exchange in recent months. With the largest urology practice in Arkansas contributing data to the health information exchange, this will continue to offer the latest innovations to referral health care organizations throughout Arkansas.
